The past is history, the future is a mystery, and this moment is a gift. That’s why this moment is called “the present.” –Deepak Chopra
The Dalai Lama puts it another way. When asked what surprised him most about humanity, he said:
“Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”
While the Dalai Lama has some wise words on the importance of enjoying the present, don’t let it overwhelm you. Start small.
Think of one thing you can do to help you enjoy the present (listening to your favorite song, taking a luxurious bath, meditating for 2 minutes….) And make it a present to yourself, really savor it.
At your next session ask me to show you the One-Breath Trigger. It’s absolutely one of the easiest ways to help you tune into the present moment.
