Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT | Tapping)

Over the years, I’ve tried so many different kinds of bodywork, meditation, distance healing, Self-Hypnosis, and other stress relief techniques. As you know, I’m totally into all this stuff!

But hands down (pun intended!), Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is the most effective–not to mention the fastest and easiest–way I know to get rid of any negative feeling (whether it’s in your head or in your body–and of course, we know they’re connected!)

What’s With All the Tapping?

Yeah, the only downside is that it looks a little weird. But if it works, who cares?!

Again, EFT is one of the most powerful techniques I teach and it’s usually the first thing I show clients coming for their initial Hypnosis or Reiki session.

How Does It Work?

EFT involves tapping on powerful acupuncture points while repeating a phrase about whatever you want to change/clear. It’s based on the premise that every emotional upset causes an imbalance in the body. (If you’ve ever felt a pit in your stomach or an anxious feeling in your chest, you know what I’m talking about!)

Here’s what one client wrote me about EFT after her first Hypnosis session:

I’ve been doing EFT almost daily. In fact, I just did it today, for a subject that requires a lot of digging, and I started crying while doing it. I felt like I tapped into an emotion buried deep inside, something I’ve been afraid to touch for a while. It felt good to go there and let it finally come out.

Some Tips:

  • Experts say use EFT on anything (and I agree!)
  • Be specific. For example, pick a specific example/situation that makes you feel anxious (rather than just general anxiety).
  • It really helps if you let yourself connect emotionally with the issue you’re trying to resolve (really let yourself feel it).
  • Sometimes, one round of EFT will do it and you’re done with that issue for good. Sometimes it’s like the layers of an onion, especially with something big. Your intuition will often kick in during the round, and you might get ideas for related issues or similar situations. And then you can do another round.
  • Rating the intensity of the negative emotion from 1-10 helps you figure out if there’s more left to do–e.g. you might feel better after one round, but not completely down to a zero, so do another round (or 2 or 3 or 4–they only take a minute or two, right?!)

EFT can offer profound healing and I love that it’s an empowering tool you can use on yourself.

EFT is a great tool to use on your own, but sometimes having assistance and support for big issues is needed.
